George Sherwood founded Aero Quality Sales in 1954.
George was a corporate/charter pilot who discovered nickel cadmium batteries as a result of electrical problems on the aircraft he was flying. Soon after he received approval to install the new type battery in his own aircraft he began promoting the batteries to other pilots he knew. His sales efforts were the beginning of our Company. Aero Quality Sales established its first sales office and distribution center at City Airport in Detroit, Michigan. The Company continued to operate and grow from this base until 1972. At that time Aero Quality embarked on an expansion project that covered the United States. During the seventies Aero Quality opened offices in Miami, Dallas, Los Angeles, Teterboro, and Houston. In 1979 Lear Siegler Inc acquired Aero Quality Sales. This change added professional management, an increase in sales and marketing activity to commercial airlines, and a sales and distribution center in London.
During the early nineties economic conditions forced the Company to consolidate its’ US distribution sites. Stamford, CT was chosen as a single warehouse and distribution point for US inventory. At that time the Company deployed remotely based sales people throughout the United States and appointed Service Centers to maintain a presence in local markets and to give its customers the necessary amount of attention. Since that time sales have continued to grow. The Company has retained its leadership in aircraft battery distribution. Annually approximately 2000 companies have active accounts and the Company ships products to more then 75 countries worldwide. In 1999 Aero Quality Sales was acquired by McKechnie plc, and in 2005 McKechnie was acquired by Melrose.
Aero Quality Sales is the world’s most experienced sales and service organization for nickel cadmium aircraft batteries. We are authorized distributors for Marathon, SAFT America, SAFT France and Varta.
Our company provides aftermarket technical support for the products we sell. We do many seminars and training sessions to insure our customers get maximum life and performance from our products. We supply a complete range of equipment to make servicing batteries easy and efficient, including the Superseder, Christie RF80K, Christie DataFX and the Fill-Master.
For those operators who use lead acid batteries, Aero Quality Sales has a wide range available from Concorde, Gill and Hawker. Our products include sealed and vented batteries.
To support maintenance operations, Aero Quality Sales is an authorized distributor of Tronair Ground Support Equipment. Tronair manufactures towbars, jacks, work stands, hydraulic units and other equipment for business aviation, regional airlines and military customers worldwide.
